Prefab chicken coops that use hardware cloth

By the Fluff & Feed team

Hens gathered inside a wooden coop

Of the 16 prefab coops we checked, only one listing says it uses hardware cloth. Most don't name the wire at all.

How we count birds

We divide the listed coop floor by 4 sq ft per bird, and the run by 10 sq ft per bird, and show the smaller number. Bantams need less, while large breeds and birds that rarely free-range need more. When a maker doesn't list floor area, we can't check the claim.

Most prefab coop listings don't say what kind of wire they use. If a page doesn't say hardware cloth, plan on adding it yourself before raccoon season.
