Egg incubators

A chick hatching from its egg

Chicken eggs take 21 days to hatch. University of Kentucky Extension says a forced-air incubator, one with a fan, should hold 99°F to 100°F, and eggs should be turned at least three times a day until day 18. An automatic turner does that for you.

What the features mean

University of Kentucky Extension says the chick "will grow and develop over a 21-day period." In a forced-air incubator the temperature should be 99°F to 100°F, and in a still-air incubator 100°F to 101°F. Eggs should be turned at least three times a day from day 2 to day 18, and not after day 18.

An automatic turner handles the turning. Some models also stop turning on their own for the last three days (often called lockdown). Most models here control humidity with water channels you top up yourself. Only one adjusts humidity automatically.
